A Little Snow Doesn’t Stop Carolina

Author: Carolina Meadows

Residents were deeply impressed and grateful for the dedication and efficiency of the Carolina Meadows staff during the recent severe snowstorm.

A number of maintenance, dining, health care, and resident services personnel camped out on campus for several days in order to provide essential services. Some of the younger dining staff literally slept on the floor! Even before the major onslaught of snow and icy rain had ended, plowing crews were out clearing roadways and the walkways between apartment buildings. Sanding and salting continued for two days as every effort was made to maintain a safe environment.

Although the dining services schedule had to be modified, more than adequate provision was made for providing meals. In consideration of staff and resident safety on the roads, evening meals were canceled on the worst evenings. However, mid day meals were available every day and a number of residents filled “take out” containers at lunch to provide for their evening meals. No one minded that plastic cutlery and paper napkins replaced the usual shiny silverware and linen napkins! A small price to pay for such wonderful service!

Although behind the scenes, top administration must be congratulated for the smooth, efficient, and comprehensive implementation of emergency measures.
