CHAPEL HILL, NC – Residents of the Carolina Meadows continuing care retirement community are helping to support the National Football League’s Kick Hunger Challenge when they purchase wine with any meal this fall.
The NFL’s Kick Hunger Challenge, part of the Taste of the NFL program, is an annual fundraising campaign that involves fans from all 32 NFL markets in a drive to raise money for food banks nationwide. Taste of the NFL has been working to kick hunger, raising more than $22 million over the past 23 years, by conducting online programs, community drives and large events similar to the annual drive at Carolina Meadows.
Currently, for every case of select premium wine purchased at Carolina Meadows from September through November, the NFL will donate 30 meals through its hunger relief program. Last year, Carolina Meadows’ wine sales generated 843 meals for local food banks.
“What’s really nice about this program is that all the meals donated stay in our area and are distributed in North Carolina,” said Rob Fleming, dining services manager at Carolina Meadows. “It’s a win-win deal. Our residents enjoy a glass or bottle of wine and that, in turn, helps those in need.”
This year’s featured wines include a Columbia Winery merlot, Louis M. Martini Winery cabernet sauvignon and William Hill Estate Winery chardonnay and cabernet.
